In case of accident, please:

• Remain calm, comfort yourself and the others
• Protect the victim and yourself form the immediate danger (a fall, falling debris, suffocation, cold, humidity and alike) as best as you can
• Administer first aid to the victim according to your best your knowledge and capacity
• Mark the place of the accident or the location of the victim (especially during the winter)
• Immediately notify the Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) regarding the accident

Report of accident that occurred in a mountain or some other difficult terrain where the assistance of Mountain Rescue Service is needed can be submitted to:

• Unique Operative-Communicational Centre, telephone number: 112
• HGSS Stations’ service phones
• Croatian Mountain Rescue Service (HGSS) Information Points; usually well equipped mountain huts, clearly marked with HGSS's name and emblem
• The police, telephone number: 92
• First Aid Stations, telephone number: 94
• Any member of HGSS

Accident Report should contain the following information:

• Who is calling (name, surname, telephone number), enabling future contact if additional information are required
• From were the call is made and how the caller found out about the accident (as an eyewitness of as a mediator),
• Location of the accident (detailed description)
• Who is the victim (surname, name, age, address)
• What happened (cause and the nature of injuries)
• What has bee done so far (type of the administered first aid and who else has been notified)
• Weather conditions at the place of accident
• Approach to the place of accident

Call for help:

Call for help in mountains or on rocks is performed with light or sound signals. The call and reply should be continuously repeated until firm and clear connection is established. Signs for help are to be performed six times in a single minute, every other minute and reply should be made with the same signs three times every other minute. Forming of the letter “Y” with your body meaning “yes” (holding your body upright and raising your arms high up and aside), is a sign that the assistance is needed, which is equal to firing a red flare.
