
Hiking
• Chose a trip which you can manage
physically and in time
• Never go alone to the mountains and do not separate from your group
• Inform your family regarding the direction of your movements and time of
the expected return and respect what you said
• Upon arriving to climbers’ chalet, register your name in the visitors’
book
• Ask around and listen to the janitor’s advice or the advice of the
experienced hikers
• Take into consideration the possible changes of weather conditions. Bring
with you spare warm clothes, cap and protection from the wind and rain
• Always bring a flashlight
• Always bring matches or a lighter and a candle
• Always bring a small personal first aid kit
• Take with you topographic map or a hiking map of the area you are visiting,
also bring with you a compass or GPS device (spare batteries for GPS device)
• Move through marked mountain trails
• Be sure to wear sturdy comfortable shoes with a rubber ribbed soles on
four feet, hiking boots are the best choice
• Be extra careful during winter when days are shorter
• During winter avoid routes which you are unknown in summer conditions
• During winter do not go to high mountains without expert members in your
hiking group
• After heavy snow do not go into the high mountains for three days
• Check weather forecast and information regarding the condition of snow and
risks from avalanches
